Charles Wyatt Beeler

Providing high quality music education since 2013.

Director of Bands

In my current role at GMG, I hold the significant responsibility and privilege of enhancing students' learning experience through the power of music. Overseeing the 7/8 Concert Band, High School Concert Band, and Jazz Band allows me to foster the growth and advancement of all musicians within these ensembles. Moreover, I am proud to offer personalized lessons to a cohort of over fifty students, tailoring my instruction to meet the unique needs and aspirations of each individual.

In my previous tenure at Newton Community School District, I led the Symphonic Band and Jazz Lab, nurturing the musical talents of numerous students while instilling in them a deep appreciation for musical expression. I also contributed as an assistant director for the Cardinal Regiment Marching Band, where I played a role in honing marching techniques and musical performances, cultivating a sense of discipline and artistry in each band member. Additionally, I provided valuable support for the Berg Middle School Jazz Band, aiding in their musical development and ensuring a cohesive and inclusive learning environment that encourages every student to thrive and excel.

Director of Technology

I have been actively engaged in the technology field for over two decades. It all began when I was fourteen, and despite my left arm being immobilized from recent surgery, I embarked on building my first computer. This endeavor led me to compile a detailed build log titled "How to Build a Computer With One Hand Tied to Your... erm... Front," which I proudly presented as a 4H project at the county fair, later earning an exhibit placement at the Iowa State Fair.

Presently, I hold the position of Technology Director at GMG Community School District. Over my career, I have expanded my expertise in educational technology. Some notable accomplishments include facilitating internet access to our football field, formulating a student 1:1 device attrition strategy, transitioning between MDM providers, enhancing classroom audio/visual systems, overseeing PBX system management, and securing numerous ERATE/ECF awards.

I find myself extremely fortunate to have been surrounded by talented and caring musicians since I began playing the trumpet in 1999. From a middle school band director that always pushed me to be better than my best, to opportunities to play in the same ensemble with some of the best musicians in the state of Iowa, I am ever grateful to my colleagues in music.

While working on my undergrad, I performed on the same stage with Allen Vizzutti and the Kentucky Baroque Trumpets. I recorded two Jazz albums: One with the Knightliters at Wartburg, and one with the Iowa Central Jazz Band. It was here that I first learned Jazz Improvisation; a skill which I now pass on to my students.

I am an active  professional musician, and perform as often as I am able. I regularly serve as the pit orchestra bass player in the Newton Community Theatre. I am also a trumpet player in the Karl L. King Municipal Band in Fort Dodge, IA. In addition to performing in these ensembles, I have also had the opportunity to direct Newton Community Theatre productions of “Jekyll and Hyde” and “All Together Now.”
